It’s been a piece of time since my last Mission Log. I took a good sized break from Elite. Looking at my screenshot time stamps, there’s a gap from September till mid December.

But I’ve been back at it for a couple of weeks and some things have been rekindled. So we’ll see if I can’t get my lazy ass updating again.

For one, I’m now in a Fer-De-Lance and I’m absolutely in love.

When I sat down tonight and went through the steps to buy it and start upgrading, I felt like kicking myself. I had the money to do this for a while. Because after loading her up, I’ve still got 19 million in the bank. Ah, well. We’re here now!

The past week and a half has seen me logging a lot of miles in a Type-7.

I’ve been using that for Community Goals (CGs) where they want you to deliver supplies to a station. The past few I’ve been a part of have been pretty good money if you place in, at least, the top 50% of all participants. There were a couple of CGs that netted me 20 million each before Christmas. And then Christmas happened!

LOOKIT THE TREE BOBBLE!!

There was another CG that started right at Christmas that I jumped on hoping for a good payout. It wasn’t spectacular, but it was decent. But only because I placed in the top 10%. Which was a first for me. Most of that was thanks to the Type-9 I bought. That thing is huge.

And SLOOOOOOW. Also, incredibly short range in the stock Frame-Shift Drive. Unless you want to drop many much millions on better modules. This was my first top tier ship. And I don’t say that to mean that it’s the best of the best. Oh no. Oh hell no. I just mean to say that if you want to haul stuff…that’s the option where you can haul the most. It gave me insight into class 7 modules. Those things are expensive.

I justified the purchase of the Type-9 on how I was feeling at the time. Big shocker. At that point in time I was thinking I was going to basically just to CGs forever until I had billions. But after finishing that last one in it, I just don’t think it’s viable. Sure it can haul a ton of stuff…but unless you kit it out, the logistics of getting all that stuff somewhere is a nightmare. When your jump range is 7 light-years, everything may as well be on the other side of the galaxy. I did spend a little to increase it. But I was trying to turn a profit for the CG and every upgrade was killing it. I’m pretty sure I lost money on this last one. The Type-7 is a lot cheaper. It’s also a lot cheaper to kit out. Before I sold it, I has a 20 light-year range. And that was fully loaded. If I do more delivery CGs, it’ll be in one of those. Course I’d have to buy another one. And I can’t do that at the moment.

CAUSE I GOT THIS THING!

I absolutely love the way the Fer-de-Lance looks. And with the top modules, it just sings. Tonight was a shake down night for me. I’ve never had a huge hardpoint. So I cycled through a few weapon types before I finally settled on a multi-cannon. Torpedoes don’t seem practical to me. I also tried a plasma accelerator (pictured above). I stored that one. Cause I liked it. But I’m not running with it cause I didn’t get a chance to use it a lot flying solo. I think in a wing, I could focus a little more knowing there are other pilots out there getting my back.

After a few missions in conflict zones, I tried my hand as some passenger work. I think there’s a good bit of money to be made in that. I even looked at maybe getting an Orca. That might be my next goal as far as ship ownership goes.

Engineers is what’s next for me. I want to get some custom stuff and really get this thing top of the line. To do that, I’ll have to do some grinding. I haven’t done anything with the Engineers yet. So I’ll be learning as I go.

But that’s all the Elite for today. I picked up The Division from Steam’s winter sale, so I’m going to get myself at least past the tutorial for that so I can play with some friends.

Did you have a good Christmas? Tell me about it in the comments!

Fly safe, CMDRs
